Are you a socialist? Test yourself.
1) humans should have access to at the very least basic and emergency medicine;
2) no child should die of hunger or go to bed hungry every night;
3) schools should be accessible to differently moneyed classes;
4) everyone should be taxed fairly;
5) no one should be without shelter;
6) women deserve equal pay and should be represented in all institutions of power and influence;
7) maternity and paternity leave should be mandatory;
8) no institution of power and influence should be controlled by ONLY MEN (perhaps except suicidal patriots);
9) private money must not decide who gets elected;
10) democracy must be one-person-one-vote - not one $, one vote;
11) workers must not be made to work in inhuman conditions and paid pittance for their hard labour;
12) corporations must NOT dictate national policies of nations, but human interests of the public must;
13) the Planet Earth belongs to everyone and every creature;
14) the State must do everything in their power to prevent mass extinctions resulting from run-away environmental exploitation for $$$;
15) states must not play favorites with Gods and Faiths;
16) no ethnic or racial or faith-based community should be discriminated against;
17) all human communities have the right to change their governments peacefully; and
18) finally, all oppressed communities have both natural and divine rights to seek the end of their oppression by any means necessary.
If you believe in any of the above you may be more socialist than you think.
